South County Outreach: Partnering to Fight Hunger in Our Community

As we gear up for our Citywide Food Drive, we want to spotlight one of our incredible partners, South County Outreach, whose mission aligns perfectly with our efforts to solve two of the greatest needs of the city: hunger and belonging.

Founded in 1989, South County Outreach has been a cornerstone in the fight against hunger and homelessness in Orange County. Their dedicated team works tirelessly to provide emergency food, housing assistance, and supportive services to vulnerable individuals and families. With a focus on dignity and empowerment, South County Outreach has helped countless people regain stability and self-sufficiency.

Their food pantry serves as a critical resource, offering nutritious groceries to those who are struggling to make ends meet. The pantry operates on a client-choice model, allowing individuals to select the items they need most, fostering a sense of autonomy and respect.

The food drive, running throughout October, will feature 17 collection sites across the city, including 11 Irvine Fire Department stations and 6 City sites, making it easy for everyone to contribute.

On November 2nd, our Annual Citywide Serve Day will offer an additional opportunity for volunteers to get involved. Participants can sign up to sort and pack the donated food at South County Outreach, directly contributing to the distribution process. This hands-on experience is not only rewarding but also a powerful way to connect with the community and see firsthand the difference we can make together.

How You Can Help

We invite you to join us in supporting South County Outreach during the Citywide Food Drive. Here’s how you can get involved:

  1. Donate Food: Drop off non-perishable food items at any of the 17 collection sites throughout October. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference.

  2. Volunteer: Sign up to sort and pack donations on November 2nd at South County Outreach. Your time and effort are invaluable in helping us provide for those in need.

  3. Spread the Word: Share information about the Citywide Food Drive with your friends, family, and neighbors. The more people we reach, the greater our impact will be.

At Love Irvine, we know that hunger is a challenge that many in our community face daily. By partnering with organizations like South County Outreach, we can address this issue head-on and work toward a future where no one in our city goes to bed hungry.
